Sitar player and Vocalist. He was an Indian musician and Hindustani classical music composer. He was one of the most prominent exponents of sitar in 20th century and actually influenced many other musicians throughout the world.
Started his career as dancer at the age of 10 with his brother Uday Shankar’s dance troupe. He eventually left dance for the love of sitar
His guru was known for his fiery temper but Pandit Ravi shankar was an exception. He also ended up marrying his guru’s daughter Annapurna Devi who was his first wife.
The song Sare Jahaan Se Accha was actually set to tune by him
George Harrison and Pandit Ravi shankar were good friends and performed together. He also influenced the way Beatles made their songs. George Harrison even visited India for six weeks to study the instrument under Shankar
