  1. Started his career as dancer at the age of 10 with his brother Uday Shankar’s dance troupe. He eventually left dance for the love of sitar
    1. His guru was known for his fiery temper but Pandit Ravi shankar was an exception. He also ended up marrying his guru’s daughter Annapurna Devi who was his first wife.
    2. The song Sare Jahaan Se Accha was actually set to tune by him
    3. George Harrison and Pandit Ravi shankar were good friends and performed together. He also influenced the way Beatles made their songs. George Harrison even visited India for six weeks to study the instrument under Shankar
    4. He created a new raga called Mohankauns as a dedication to Mahatma Gandhi due to the similarity of the raga with Madhukauns
    5. He provided the score for Satyajit Ray’s Pather Panchali, Apur Sansaar, Aparajito
    6. Pandit Ravi shankar was part of the Parliament from 1986 to 1992 when he was nominated by late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to Rajya Sabha.
