This generation is going crazy over Instagram, a photo and video sharing, social networking service which empowers us to share our photos and videos across a variety of social networking platforms like Facebook, Twitter etc. Instagram has crossed 400 Million mark in terms of its user base and still growing strong with people posting from anything to everything on it. Thanks to Instagram, terms like Instacelebs, Instagram Husbands and Hashtags are now trending.
The company, to have a better engagement with its users, has decided to organize photo exhibitions in different countries showcasing their local culture and heritage. Their latest exhibition was in Kolkata which portrayed the culture of Bengal along with its beautiful landscape and architecture. The photos were sourced from 17 users with diverse profiles and illustrate various facets of life here.
Ankhi Das, Public Policy Director of Facebook, addressed PTI saying
This is our first photo exhibition in India. We are starting from Kolkata because of its heritage and culture. We are planning more such community-centric events in other states to actively engage our users.
The event ran in-parallel to the Bengal Global Business Summit which went on for three days featuring numerous foreign dignitaries and delegates. The motive behind the move was to make the outsiders aware of the rich cultural heritage that this state possesses. The officials from Facebook coordinated with the local Instagram community (@ig_calcutta) to curate photo in order to build imagery appropriate to the theme.
Here, is the collection of some of those pictures which were put on display.
