Arrival of Simon Commission

The Simon commission or Indian Statutory Commission was constituted by 7 British MPs who were sent to India in 1928 to complete a study on constitutional reforms in India. The commission was called Simon Commission after its chairman, John Simon.

The moment from its arrival in Bomday on 3 February, the commission was confronted by protesters who thronged every city where the commission went. The British administration came down heavily on the strikes often resorting to measures like Lathicharge. During a protest, the police superintendent James Scott assaulted the Punjab Kesri, Lala Lajpat Rai who later died succumbing to his injuries.

India’s First Electric Train

Almost 91 years ago on 3 February, 1925, India inaugurated the services of its First electric train. The daily service started between Bombay VT and Kurla on the Harbour line. A 129 ft high Railway gantry was assembled to make this possible. At the time, the structure was touted to be the only such traction span anywhere in world.

Under Rajan, the perception of RBI changed in people’s mind in India as RBI started to be more forthcoming with changes in the monetary policies and its impact.
